Mustang is an ancient forbidden kingdom, bordered by the Tibetan plateau and sheltered by some of world’s tallest peaks, including 8000-meter tall Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Strict. To trek in Mustang is a rare privilege. Here you will experience the way of life of true mountain people, who were not much in touch with the rest of Nepal for hundreds of years, and even until recent times had an officially recognized king. In many ways, a trek into Mustang is similar to trekking in Tibet. The district of Mustang was, until 1950, a separate kingdom within the boundaries of Nepal. The last king of Mustang, still has his home in the ancient capital known as Lo Manthang.

To perform a hike or a voyage of discovery, the best periods are the fall between mid-September and the end of November and the spring season from March to May where rhododendrons are in flower.
In the fall, in general the sky is blue, the sun often radiant and the view on the mountains most of the time, crystalline, the temperature during the day is rather pleasant between 20 to 30 degrees, an ideal temperature for walking. At night the temperature goes down between 0 and 10 degrees up to 4 500 m.
In winter between December and February the time is very clear and the visibility on the mountains excellent it is possible to do trekking in low altitude (up to 4 000 m of altitude) and cultural visits. The major trekking are not practicable and the passes are closed from mid-June, it is the beginning of the monsoon season until the end of August and this period is not recommended for trekkers.
In Nepal, most of the circuits of trekking occur in altitude. The circuits having at least one night or more in more than 3 500 m of altitude are qualified of trekking in High Mountain. This altitude can generate the symptom of acute mountain sickness. The treatment to always apply is to descent (go back) as quickly as possible to a lower altitude.
Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a syndrome of suffering, linked to a rise too fast in high altitude, at the absence of acclimation and to a personal sensitivity more or less important. Its symptoms are headache, nausea and vomiting, insomnia, general fatigue, tiredness, dizziness, balance disorder, dyspnoea and of the loss of appetite.
It is therefore a frequent disease affecting people in good health but exposed to an extreme environment of high altitude. Its incidence is variable, but increases very rapidly with altitude; it would be 15% to 2 000 meters of altitude and 60% to 4 000 meters.
This evil usually appears in the 4 to 12 hours following the arrival in altitude: it is regressing with the acclimation and disappears immediately to the descent.
